37. Original Berner Knecklace

Artist Leah Semrock designed this necklace in honor of Samwise of the Shire who is owned by Colleen Mason from Ohio.

"Sam is a 3 year old Bernese Mountain Dog who has given me an unlimited amount of laughs. Although I know this health fund is for dogs I also am aware of the importance of laughter for a person’s good health. This is the reason I honor Sam – he makes me laugh. His antics and forever smiling expression and wagging tail have benefited me therefore, to benefit the auction, I am donating a piece of my original jewelry to the Bernese Mountain Dog Health Fund Auction.

This sturdy wire necklace incorporates an original head study of a Bernese Mountain Dog modeled by Sam and designed by Leah Semrock of Westwind Artworks. It uses glass and acrylic beads in various tones of green that complement the Bernese Mountain Dog head. Each head study is different giving every one an unique one of a kind quality.

Thirty minutes east of Toledo in Curtice Ohio, you will find Westwind Artworks. Artist, Leah Semrock has been fascinated by dogs all of her life. She matches her love of art and passion for dogs through her original breed studies.

41. Seventh Annual Specialty-Themed Quilt and Matching Pillow

This is the seventh annual specialty-themed quilt produced for the health fund auction by the Inland Northwest Quilters. In keeping with the 2009 Specialty theme and logo, this year's quilt features a river, mountains, tall evergreens, and of course a Berner. The front of the quilt, except for the Berner, is made entirely from flannel fabrics. The backing is a coordinating plaid in soft fleece, perfect for chilly weather.

Detailing includes a river and trees made from faux chenille. Tiny glass beads hand sewn into the river catch the light and add sparkle to the foaming water. There are 7 different plaid fabrics in blocks that make up the border of the quilt. The plaids represent the flannel shirts favored by Northwestern lumberjacks. The border is made up of Bear Paw quilt blocks, and this pattern was specifically chosen to represent the wildlife present in this lush environment.
